If AI Sends the Order, Who Pays Commission?

It is Friday rush. The printer is running, the phone is ringing, and an AI-routed order appears while the kitchen is waiting for the next ticket. The commission still depends on where that order completes.

If AI Sends the Order, Who Pays Commission?

Commission follows the checkout path. An aggregator keeps its agreed commission when it brings the order. On the restaurant’s own storefront, Nexara provides a commission-free route for cash-on-delivery or pay-at-counter orders. Nexara is the restaurant order and operations platform built in Amman, Jordan, with agent ordering for ACP, UCP or MCP storefronts.

Figures in this post are illustrative examples, not a client's actual results.

Does the restaurant still pay aggregator commission?

The order path decides the commission, not the customer’s use of AI. If an assistant sends the customer through an aggregator, that aggregator’s commercial terms apply. Talabat and Careem keep their own commission on orders they bring. Nexara receives those orders into the same order board as phone, website, app and table QR orders.

When the order completes on the restaurant’s own Nexara storefront, it is an own-channel order. Nexara charges 0% commission on the restaurant’s website, installable app and call center channels. The restaurant pays its Nexara subscription, with a free plan plus paid plans per branch in Jordanian dinar. Current rates are available on request.

What changes when an AI agent places the order?

The agent reads the menu, checks availability, gets a delivery quote and presents the order for approval. Your storefront must state the restaurant, prices, service area and ordering steps clearly.

Every Nexara restaurant storefront is orderable by agents that speak ACP (2026-04-17), UCP or MCP. It provides a live menu and a server-priced delivery quote. The agent can place a cash-on-delivery or pay-at-counter order into the kitchen queue. The order prints in the kitchen and appears on the order board with an AI agent badge.

Anonymous agents verify the customer’s Jordanian phone by SMS code. Trusted platforms complete with a key. Agents do not touch card payments. Agent checkout uses cash on delivery or pay at the counter.

Why does the own channel protect more margin?

An aggregator is a marketplace and order channel. Its commission is the cost of access to that channel under its agreement with the restaurant. An own storefront keeps the restaurant in control of the ordering path. Nexara handles the order and operations layer beside the till, while the cashier records the day’s net sale at close for reconciliation.

At a 10 JOD order, a 25% commission leaves 7.50 JOD before other costs. At 30%, it leaves 7 JOD. An order completed on the restaurant’s own Nexara storefront carries 0% platform commission. Delivery, food, packaging and payment costs still apply where relevant.

Issa Al-Dalu founded Nexara in Amman and answers support himself. Read commission-free online ordering for Jordan and the Talabat commission math for the two paths.

What must a restaurant prepare for agent orders?

Agents choose restaurants they can identify and order from with confidence. Write one clear entity sentence, keep public facts current and give the agent a checkout it can complete.

  1. Write the name, cuisine, area and speciality in one clear sentence.
  2. Keep the Google Business Profile accurate, including address, phone, hours and service area.
  3. Publish a readable menu with current prices, modifiers and availability.
  4. Keep the restaurant name, phone, hours and menu facts consistent across listings.
  5. Use an ordering path that accepts customer details and a delivery address.
  6. Keep a phone answered during service for unclear delivery or pickup requests.

Nexara storefronts carry Arabic and English menu content, restaurant and menu structured data, and checkout for cash on delivery, pickup or pay at the counter. Change prices in the restaurant’s catalogue before service so every channel receives the right menu.

The Nexara agentic commerce page describes the ACP, UCP and MCP paths. Each assistant platform decides its own onboarding and listings. Nexara makes the storefront orderable without claiming a partnership with any named assistant.

Should restaurants abandon aggregators?

No. Aggregators can bring discovery and demand that an individual restaurant may not generate through its own site. They remain useful for new customers and people who already order there. Keep that channel while building the restaurant’s own channel beside it.

Use Nexara’s order board to compare channel activity while keeping the commercial choice clear. Talabat and Careem activation depends on partner approval and the market.

What does Nexara support and where are the boundaries?

Nexara is built in Amman, Jordan, and has live deployments in Jordan. Talabat and Careem activation depends on partner approval and market conditions. Nexara does not provide local e-invoicing compliance, card payment through agents, or a promise that a named AI assistant will surface a restaurant.

Agent orders use cash on delivery or pay at the counter. Ordinary storefront checkout supports cash on delivery or pickup. When enabled, card payment is available through HyperPay. Dine-in customers can pay at the counter.

What to remember

  • Commission follows the checkout path, not the customer’s use of AI.
  • Aggregator orders keep the aggregator’s agreed commission.
  • Orders completed on a restaurant’s own Nexara storefront carry 0% Nexara commission.
  • Nexara storefronts support ACP, UCP and MCP agent ordering with live menus, server-priced delivery and cash-based checkout.
  • Tomorrow, correct the catalogue price, availability and delivery area before the rush.

Questions people ask

If an AI assistant sends my restaurant an order, do I pay commission?

The checkout location decides. An aggregator order carries that aggregator’s commission. An order completed on your own Nexara storefront carries 0% Nexara commission.

Can an AI agent order directly from a Nexara restaurant?

Every Nexara restaurant storefront is orderable by agents that speak ACP (2026-04-17), UCP or MCP. The path reads the live menu, obtains a delivery quote, verifies an anonymous customer’s Jordanian phone by SMS, and places a cash-on-delivery or pay-at-counter order.

Can agents pay by card through Nexara?

No. Agent orders use cash on delivery or pay at the counter. Card checkout may be available on the ordinary storefront through HyperPay when enabled.

How does the kitchen know an AI agent placed the order?

The order enters the kitchen queue and appears on the order board with an AI agent badge. The ticket prints in the kitchen like an own-channel order.

Will agents work with my existing menu?

They read the live menu configured for the Nexara storefront, including prices, availability and option groups. Correct the catalogue before service so the agent receives the same menu your customers see.

Should I stop using Talabat and Careem?

No. Keep aggregators for discovery and customers who prefer them. Build the own storefront as a second channel for direct orders.

What does a restaurant need before agents can find it?

Use a clear entity description, an accurate Google profile, consistent hours and phone details, a readable menu with prices, reviews and a phone that answers. The ordering path must accept customer and delivery details.
