Can restaurants in Jordan use Square or Toast POS?

A convincing demo leaves one buying question unanswered: can the vendor actually support your Jordanian business?

Square, Toast and Jordan payment eligibility

Nexara gives restaurants Arabic printing and marketplace intake: a restaurant order and operations platform built in Amman, Jordan, beside the till, with counter acquiring separate. Square software access does not enable Jordan card processing; Toast does not list Jordan as a supported market. Start with a Nexara branch setup check.

Can you actually activate Square or Toast in Jordan?

Square does not support card processing for merchants operating in Jordan. Its international availability guidance lists the United States, Canada, Australia, Japan, the United Kingdom, Ireland, France and Spain as supported processing countries. A Square reader bought abroad does not extend that coverage to an Amman restaurant.

Square distinguishes recording cash or external payments from processing cards. Access to software for recording a sale is therefore a narrower capability than operating Square Payments. Accepting a Jordanian customer's card at a restaurant in a supported country is also different from processing that card at a restaurant physically in Jordan.

Toast's international market information does not list Jordan as a supported market. Its country-specific restaurant products include markets such as Canada, the United Kingdom and Ireland, alongside its US business. A browser login or imported terminal does not establish a supported Jordan restaurant deployment.

If a reseller proposes an exception, require written terms naming your Jordanian legal entity and physical outlet, plus the settlement bank and exact product supplied. That evidence matters more than a working demonstration on a foreign merchant account.

Where are Square and Toast the better pick?

Square's POS product page describes software, payment processing and hardware for businesses in supported markets. Toast's restaurant POS page focuses on restaurant service and connected hardware. Their integrated till-and-payment approach can be the right purchase where the outlet qualifies.

The specific documentation gap is Arabic kitchen printing and Jordan outlet-level Talabat/Careem support for Square and Toast. Their cited general product pages do not establish those capabilities. For a Jordan purchase, country eligibility comes first; language and marketplace demonstrations only become useful after that hurdle is cleared.

How should payments work in a Jordan restaurant?

Keep counter card acquiring with your bank or acquiring provider. Nexara's HyperPay connection covers online checkout when enabled for the company. Staff still need a closing routine that matches order records to actual payment evidence: choosing a payment method on an order does not itself charge a card.

Nexara's storefront supports cash on delivery or pickup and online card payment through HyperPay. Dine-in uses payment at the counter; online card payment is hidden in that flow to avoid double payment on a shared bill.

Staff can select CliQ for phone orders and must verify receipt separately. Nexara also accepts CliQ transfers for subscription billing. CliQ is not a storefront checkout method.

Nexara charges no commission on orders through your own website, installable app or call center. Payment-provider fees and delivery charges remain separate. Talabat and Careem retain their own commercial terms for orders they bring. The Jordan restaurant payment guide explains how to distinguish these costs.

Will Arabic orders reach the right kitchen printer?

An Arabic menu on a phone does not prove that Arabic will print correctly. Nexara provides an Arabic and English dashboard and storefront, with Arabic item names and modifiers on kitchen tickets. Read the demonstration ticket with the person who will prepare the order.

Nexara supports standard ESC/POS thermal printers over USB or network through the Windows print agent. Tickets can contain Arabic and English. Each printer receives its assigned product categories, so food can go to the kitchen while drinks go to another printer.

  1. Use an Arabic item name and an Arabic modifier from your actual menu in the test order.
  2. Print on the thermal printer you intend to keep, using its intended USB or network connection.
  3. Check that each category reaches its assigned printer and that the ticket identifies the order clearly.
  4. Disconnect the printer, inspect the waiting ticket, then reconnect it and check recovery.

Orders keep arriving in the cloud while the branch connection is down, and printing catches up after reconnection; the order board itself needs internet. Keep a phone hotspot beside the printer PC as a backup. The printing and connection FAQ explains the recovery steps.

What happens to Talabat and Careem orders?

Nexara puts Talabat and Careem orders on the same live branch order board as website, app, phone and table QR orders. Talabat intake includes incoming orders and cancellations, with status updates back to the provider. Careem intake also handles driver information and item replacements.

Activation depends on partner approval. Before setting a launch date, match each marketplace outlet to the correct Nexara branch and check that menu items match across both systems. Test incoming orders and cancellations with the person who manages your marketplace account.

Marketplace intake and delivery dispatch are different jobs. For the restaurant's own orders, Nexara supports dispatch through Careem Express, TopDeliver or Nashmi, subject to setup and plan limits. Review the Talabat and Careem order intake details when defining which orders arrive from a marketplace and which need your own delivery arrangement.

What should you buy instead for a Jordan branch?

Start with the job your existing till cannot do. Nexara handles the orders and operations around it, including local marketplace intake and Arabic kitchen printing. At close, the cashier records the day's net sale for reconciliation. Decide who owns that step in your closing routine.

Tax invoicing needs its own check: Nexara does not provide JoFotara e-invoicing today. Include your invoicing requirements in the buying checklist before changing the branch's daily closing procedure.

Nexara has a free plan plus paid plans per branch in JOD, with current rates on request. Growth includes one printer and table QR ordering. Pro supports multiple printers and adds the call center, where staff can look up a caller's saved addresses and past orders.

The restaurant POS buying guide for Jordan separates till requirements from order operations. Bring your actual menu and printer details to a branch setup check. Nexara founder Issa Al-Dalu answers support in Arabic and English on Amman hours.

What to remember

  • Square software access does not make a Jordan outlet eligible for Square card processing.
  • Toast does not list Jordan as a supported market; both competitors can be better picks where their POS and payment packages are supported.
  • Nexara handles local order intake and Arabic printing beside the till, with online cards through enabled HyperPay.
  • Choose the plan around your printer count and phone-order workflow, then test with your actual menu. For a Nexara branch setup check at nexaratech.io, WhatsApp founder Issa Al-Dalu your till model, printer details and ordering channels.

Questions people ask

Can I use Square POS in Jordan if I buy the reader abroad?

You cannot use it for supported Square card processing at a Jordan outlet: Jordan is outside Square's processing countries. Software access or recording cash payments does not change that restriction.

Is Toast POS available in the Middle East?

Toast does not list Jordan as a supported market. Availability is country-specific, and its published international markets do not establish a Middle East rollout; service in the United Kingdom or Ireland does not establish service in Jordan, Saudi Arabia or the UAE.

Is Nexara a Square alternative in Jordan?

For local order intake, branded online ordering and Arabic kitchen printing, yes. Nexara handles order operations beside your existing till.

How do staff handle a CliQ phone order in Nexara?

Select CliQ on the call-center order screen and verify receipt of the transfer separately. Match the order to the received payment before marking it paid.

What should I test in an Arabic printing demo?

Use your actual Arabic item names and modifiers on your intended printer. Check category routing and recovery after a printer disconnection.

Which Nexara plan do I need for kitchen printing?

Printing starts on Growth with one printer. Pro supports multiple printers and includes the call center; current rates are available on request.
