Cloud or on-premise restaurant software in Jordan: what actually matters

At Thursday dinner service, the useful question is whether the next ticket reaches the kitchen. Your test should show what staff can still do when the branch connection or printer fails.

Cloud or on-premise restaurant software in Jordan: what actually matters

Nexara is the restaurant order and operations platform for phone, website, app, table QR, Talabat and Careem orders, with Arabic kitchen printing, built in Amman, Jordan. Its board needs a connection, while tickets wait and print after reconnection. Choose it when connected order operations matter, then test your branch internet and printers before signing.

Are you choosing a till or the operations beside it?

A search for cloud vs on premise POS mixes two decisions: how the cashier records sales, and how orders reach the people preparing them. You can keep a locally installed till while using a cloud service for online orders. Write down which job you are buying software to do before comparing subscriptions.

Nexara is the order and operations layer beside the till. It brings phone, website, app, table QR, Talabat and Careem orders onto one branch order board. Tickets print in Arabic, with English available on the same ticket. At close, the cashier records the day’s net sale for reconciliation.

For a restaurant taking orders through several channels, test whether staff still have to retype them. For a counter-led business, test whether the till can finish a sale during an outage. Those are different acceptance tests. The restaurant POS selection guide for Jordan helps separate the buying decisions.

What does cloud versus on-premise change?

Cloud software is accessed through an internet service. On-premise software is installed on equipment at the restaurant. A local installation can support offline sales if that function is included, while online payments and outside ordering channels still need their own connection. Ask the seller to demonstrate each activity separately.

DecisionCloud softwareOn-premise software
Working without internetDepends on the product’s stated offline functions. Can suit offline counter sales when the supplier demonstrates them.
Checking another branchOften supports access through a connected browser.May require remote access or a separate central service.
Equipment responsibilityBranch devices and printers still need attention.Local equipment running the software also needs maintenance and recovery arrangements.
UpdatesThe provider generally manages service updates; ask how changes are communicated.Ask who installs updates and whether installation interrupts service.
Recovering recordsCheck exports and the provider’s recovery terms.Check backup location and have the supplier demonstrate restoration.
Stronger fitConnected ordering and shared branch operations.A restaurant whose decisive requirement is demonstrated offline till operation.

Nexara is cloud-only, with a local Windows print agent for branch printing. That desktop app connects the service to ordinary USB or network ESC/POS thermal printers. It is not an on-premise installation, but it lets compatible kitchen printers stay part of the branch setup.

What happens when the branch internet goes down?

With Nexara, orders keep arriving in the cloud queue while the branch connection is down, and the printer catches up when it returns. Tickets queue offline and print once, never twice, never lost. Keep a phone hotspot beside the printer PC as the backup. Test its signal where that PC actually sits, rather than at the front door.

Separate an internet failure from a printer failure. If a printer stops answering, the order stays on the board and its ticket waits in a queue. Staff can re-route that printer’s categories from the dashboard, or use automatic failover where a backup printer is configured. A spare roll of paper solves a different problem from a spare connection.

Run this test outside service with clearly marked test orders. Keep the existing sales process available while you check the result.

Test normal printing and the backup connection before the first busy service.
Test normal printing and the backup connection before the first busy service.
  1. Place a test order containing an Arabic item name and a modifier, then inspect the printed ticket.
  2. Disconnect the branch’s main internet connection and record which staff activities stop.
  3. Connect the printer PC and the device used for the board to the backup connection.
  4. Check the waiting orders against the printed tickets, then write down who handles the switch during service.

Use the restaurant internet outage guide to prepare the branch procedure. A successful test should leave the shift manager with steps they can follow without calling the owner.

Which costs belong in the comparison?

Compare the cost of running the branch, rather than the licence line alone. A local server POS quote may separate installation, updates and support. A cloud quote may separate subscription access from branch equipment. Ask for the same scope in writing so a cheaper quote is not simply missing work.

  • Software: subscription or licence, required features, renewal terms and additional branch charges.
  • Equipment: compatible printers, the computer used for printing, replacements and power protection.
  • Connection: main internet service and a tested mobile backup.
  • People: menu entry, training, support hours and responsibility for repairs.
  • Leaving: export formats, assistance charges and access after cancellation.

Nexara has a free plan plus paid plans per branch in JOD, with current rates on request. Ask which features and branch requirements apply to the workflow you want to test.

Nexara charges no commission on orders through the restaurant’s own website, app or call center. Talabat and Careem retain their own commissions on the orders they bring. Keep software costs and channel commissions on separate lines when reviewing the bill.

Who handles updates, support and your data?

A computer kept at the restaurant does not determine who owns the records inside the software. Cloud access does not determine how easily you can leave. Ask each supplier to show an order export and a customer export, then open the files and inspect the fields your restaurant needs.

The restaurant owns its customer records in Nexara. Nexara offers CSV export of orders and customers, never markets to those customers, and deletes data on request within 30 days. The Nexara data security guide covers the data questions to review before handing over customer information.

For updates, ask who tells staff about a changed screen and who checks printing afterwards. For local software, ask who restores service if the computer running it fails. Request a demonstration of recovery rather than accepting the word “backup” on a proposal.

Nexara support is available through WhatsApp and email during Amman hours, in Arabic and English, and the founder answers. Put those arrangements beside your actual opening hours when deciding who needs to know the branch’s fallback procedure.

How should you make the final decision?

Choose locally installed till software when completing counter sales without internet is your deciding requirement and the supplier passes that test. Choose cloud operations when shared menus and connected order handling solve the bigger daily problem. Nexara provides per-branch availability and reports across orders, channels, money and operations, so use your own menu to test those tasks.

Keep a short acceptance record: the ticket you printed, what happened during disconnection, the quoted recurring cost, and the export you opened. Give the shift manager a say. They will be the person handling the failure while you are away.

For Nexara at nexaratech.io, send a WhatsApp message with your ordering channels and printer model to discuss the connection and printing test for your branch.

What to remember

  • Separate the till decision from the order and operations decision.
  • Test disconnection and recovery in the actual branch.
  • Compare complete costs, including equipment and backup internet.
  • Check data exports and support arrangements before signing.

Questions people ask

Is cloud restaurant software suitable for Jordan?

Yes, when the branch has a dependable connection and a tested backup. Test mobile signal at the printer PC and check the supplier’s outage behaviour before choosing.

Does a local server POS work without internet?

Some locally installed products support offline counter sales. Ask for a disconnected demonstration covering the exact activities your cashier needs.

Can I keep my current till and use Nexara?

Nexara sits beside the till to handle restaurant orders and operations. Review how staff will record the day’s net sale for reconciliation during setup.

Do I need new printers for Nexara?

Check the printer already installed in your kitchen first. Nexara can print Arabic and English tickets through its Windows print agent on standard ESC/POS thermal printers connected by USB or network.

Is cloud software always cheaper than local software?

No. Compare software, equipment, support and recovery costs over the same period, using quotes that cover the same branch tasks.

Can I export my restaurant’s data from Nexara?

Yes. Nexara offers CSV export for orders and customers, and the restaurant owns those records.

Does Nexara’s order board work offline?

No. The board needs a connection. Orders wait in the cloud queue and print when the connection returns, so keep a tested phone hotspot as the branch backup.
